HAND-BRAIDED WATER GRASS
CRATED BY AN ALL-WOMEN WEAVING COLLECTIVE IN INDIA
Handwoven from natural water grass, the Teppa basket comes straight from a historic, riverside town in India. In a buttery golden hue, and molded into a shallow yet roomy size, it makes for a perfect gathering basket. Style them on shelves, or fill them up with logs of wood for near the fireplace, it instantly adds a bit of raw texture for that cozy cottage vibe. We’re imagining a couple of these thrown around a room filled with light airy textiles.
Crafted by a collective of 150 women weavers, each basket takes 3 days to weave, from start-to-finish in a fair-trade environment.
*Water hyacinth is a beautiful river grass, but its rapid, dense growth is choking the river ways, displacing indigenous flora and fauna. By using it to make baskets, the weaving community helps protect the river, while generating a source of income.
Your basket is sturdy, and strong, perfect for regular indoor or covered outdoor use. With a little love these will live a long life. Dust occasionally or wipe with a dry cloth if needed. No other cleaning should be necessary.
